Winter Events at Bogus Basin 2023/24

Winter is rapidly approaching, and as usual, the 2023/24 winter events calendar at Bogus Basin is filled with lively community events. Bogus Basin plans to open for the winter season with The Explorer Terrain Park on November 18th and 19th, 2023, followed by a chairlift opening on Friday, November 24th, 2023.  Your snowmaking team is observing the weather closely, blowing snow when temperatures allow. Please continue to follow Bogus Basin on social media and check the website for Opening Day updates.

November Events 2023 

Winter is here, and we have several exciting events in November planned for the community!

11/18
Lowtide returns to Bogus Basin! To make this opening weekend extra special for Treasure Valley residents, Bogus Basin Terrain Park and Snowboy Productions have collaborated for Lowtide 2023 – the 2nd annual specialty preseason park build open to the public. Free to the public and open 10 am – 4 pm!

11/19
The Gathering – Party in the Park, $10 lift tickets, free with season pass, open 10 am – 4 pm.

11/24
The first chairlift spins at Bogus Basin! Weather-dependent, Bogus Basin plans to open its first chairlift for the 2023/24 season. Snowmaking crews are hard at work and ready to blow snow anytime the weather cooperates! Stay tuned for updates on open terrain, ticket prices, and hours.

December Events 2023 

As always, we are excited to invite the community to partake in various holiday activities and public events in the month of December. 

12/2
The Nordic Fest Season Kick-Off takes place on December 2nd from 10 am – 2 pm. Celebrate the beginning of the season with $5 trail passes, free gear rentals, free instructional clinics, free snowshoe tours, demos, and more at Nordic Fest! We encourage you to bring a friend; all levels, including beginners, are welcome! 

12/9
Ready for some friendly competition? Join the Community Race Series Skiathlon on December 9th from 10 am to 11 am. All ability levels, including adaptive athletes, are welcome. Register for the ‘Series Race’ and receive a 15% discount to compete in all six community races. Register for the Community Race Series Skiathlon here

Ski with Santa! Santa plans to be on the mountain on Saturday, 12/17, from 10 am – 2 pm. Look for Santa while you’re on your favorite run or in the base area handing out candy canes!

12/31
Skate into the New Year at Bogus Basin! The New Year’s Skate is part of the Community Race Series and is set to occur on December 31st at 10 am. All levels are welcome to participate, including adaptive athletes. Registration to race is now open! 

January Events 2024

1/1
Join Bogus Basin in welcoming 2024 with everyone’s favorite New Year’s Day Celebration, featuring a torchlight parade and spectacular fireworks show. The 2024 New Year’s Day Celebration takes place on January 1st, 2024, from 5 pm – 9 pm. This is a free community event and includes free hot chocolate and cookies for spectators.  Please note that the Deer Point and Morningstar Chairlifts close from 5:45 pm – 7 pm for the festivities. 



1/13 – 1/27, Saturdays
January 13th is the first race of the School Race Programs at Bogus Basin! This year marks the 65th year of School Racing Programs at Bogus Basin. Treasure Valley students from 42 middle schools and 37 high schools plan to participate in a fun and friendly ski or snowboard competition, taking place over a series of six weekends, concluding with the Dotty Clark Memorial Race championship finale. Check out the full race schedule and deadline on our Competitive Education Page!

1/16 & 1/30
The Nordic Community Race Series continues on January 16th… at night! All levels are welcome to participate in the Night Skate, including adaptive athletes. Night Skate races begin at 5:30 pm. Two weeks later, join us for the Twilight Classic Community Race series event on January 30th at 5:30 pm. For more information and registration, check out the community race series!

1/18 – 3/21, Thursdays
Trivia Night at Bogus Basin is Back! Test your trivia knowledge every Thursday at 6:30 pm with our Environmental Education and Stewardship Team on the second floor of Simplot Lodge in J.R.’s T-Bar! Trivia begins January 18th and recurs every Thursday through March 21st

1/18 – 2/22, Thursdays
Is your student racing in the Bogus Basin School Race Program? The Family Race Practice program offers extra family practice at Bogus Basin! Family Practice begins January 18th and occurs weekly on Thursdays for the following six weeks. Contact John Foley at  johnfoley@bogusbasin.org for more information. 


February Events 2024

2/17
The Obligatory Classic is part of The Community Race Series, a 6-part Nordic series by Bogus Basin. These races are available for everyone to participate in and are a great venue for skiers to put in a hard effort and challenge themselves. Racers and all skiers are encouraged to bring a dish to share for a community potluck following the Obligatory Classic.

2/22 – 2/23
The championship and final race of the 2023/24 Bogus Basin School Race Program occurs on February 22nd – 23rd at the Dotty Clark Memorial Race! High school and middle school students participating in three or more qualifying races can miss a day of school and compete in the 65th Annual Dotty Clark Memorial Race.  Learn more on our Competitive Education Page!

2/23
Mark your calendars because this is the most important date of the season…The Bogus Basin Season Pass Sale kicks off February 23rd, 2024, and this is the first opportunity to snag a season pass for the 2024-25 winter season, 2024 spring season, and 2024 summer gravity park season. Plan ahead and save the date, as season passes remain limited to ensure a quality guest experience.

March Events 2024

3/2
The Tour De Bogus is the final race of The Community Race Series, scheduled for March 2nd 10 am – 11 am. Join us for the season’s awards ceremony following the race. All ages and ability levels are welcome. 

3/11 – 3/15
Idaho Central Credit Union (ICCU) Member Week takes place March 11th – 15th. ICCU members receive 50% off Day, Twilight, and Night tickets along with 50% off Learn to Ski/Ride and Rental Packages

Don Baker Memorial Slalom – TBD
Back for its 8th year, the Don Baker Banked Slalom is a community favorite event where snowboarders gather to see who can make it through the intense hand-built slalom course the fastest! The event date is still in the works, but plan for Early/Mid March and check back in.

April Events 2024

While we can’t predict the weather, we know the closing weekend is a party. Celebrate the end of the season with an EPIC pond skim on Saturday and live music on Sunday. Dates will be released later in the season – Stay up to date on InstagramFacebook, our Newsletter, and our events calendar.

Additional Planned Events 

With winter fast approaching, we are still in the process of planning some winter events at Bogus Basin for the 2023/24 season. Below are a few staple events that will return but do not have firm dates yet. Make sure to check our website’s events calendar and social media channels for updates throughout the season!

Bogus Basin plans to continue Guided Nature Programs and Snowshoe Tours throughout the winter. Please look for release dates on the Bogus Basin events calendar and on social media

Night League Racing is returning to Bogus Basin! Races take place on Wednesday evenings – Series start date and times are in the works.

Sunset Sessions are slated to return to The High Peak Hangout on the 3rd floor of the Pioneer Lodge for the 2023/24 season. Dates and artists are still in flux, so look for a lineup sooner than later!

About Bogus Basin
Opened in 1942, Bogus Basin winter operations offer 2,600 acres of daytime skiable terrain and 200+ acres for night skiing; eleven lifts – including four high-speed quads – and three people-mover surface lifts; an 800-foot tubing hill. The Nordic Center offers 37 kilometers of groomed trails. Environmental education and community outreach programs serve over 20,000 individuals annually, primarily youth. Bogus Basin is located 16.5 miles north of Boise, Idaho, and operates under a special use permit with the Boise National Forest.

Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area is one of the largest non-profit recreation areas in the country. It is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to engaging the community to provide accessible, affordable, and fun year-round mountain recreation and education. Bogus Basin summer activities include a challenge course, mountain coaster, summer tubing, climbing wall, bungee trampoline, gem panning station, The Basin Gravity Park, cross-country mountain biking and hiking, free community events and educational programs, chairlift service to access hiking and biking trails, and guided nature hikes.
