BOISE, Idaho – December 13, 2023 Winter season momentum continues to build at Bogus Basin where officials today announced two pieces of welcome news for recreation enthusiasts: Lift operations are expanding, and night skiing will begin this weekend.

Front-side night operations begin Friday, December 15th. The area will remain open daily until 10:00 pm*. Guests who hit the evening slopes will enjoy improved visibility and coverage on the Showcase and Alpine runs, where lights were replaced over the summer. Bogus Basin offers a total of 200 lit acres providing night riding for beginners to experts.

Saturday, December 16th, the Pine Creek Express and Superior Express chairlifts will open, bringing the total number of daytime lifts in operation at the non-profit to eight, and expanding access to intermediate/advanced terrain located on the backside of the mountain. Guests will appreciate runs groomed with Bogus Basin’s recently acquired PistenBully 600 winch cat, the most powerful winch cat available.

Amid the drier-than-usual weather patterns affecting the region, Bogus Basin is leveraging its investment in technology to operate dependably; snowmaking has allowed the area to open, maintain, and expand operations.

“Our community came together to generously donate the funds to install snowmaking technology at Bogus Basin. That investment has paid off, helping jumpstart early season operations as we await more natural snowfall”

General Manager Brad Wilson

Officials are emphasizing that hazards accompany early season conditions and encourage guests to be mindful of potential marked and unmarked obstacles.

“The start of a new season is always highly anticipated, and while we are excited to expand operations, pass holders and guests need to ride with caution, staying on groomed terrain for the best coverage”

Devon Haire, Bogus Basin Patrol Manager

The area has shifted its ticket release schedule as it assesses what terrain will be open for this weekend:

Season pass holders are encouraged to visit the sales office during the week to verify that their liability waiver is signed and/or to pick up a season pass.
