OVER 1,400 AREA STUDENTS TO COMPETE IN BOGUS BASIN’S 2024 DOTTY CLARK memorial RACES
The 64th Annual Dotty Clark Memorial Races will take place
on February 22nd and 23rd, 2024
Boise, Idaho – Bogus Basin will welcome 1,442 local junior high and high school students for the Dotty Clark Memorial Races later this week. The students, participants in Bogus Basin’s School Race Program, will compete in alpine skiing, snowboarding and Nordic skiing competitions on Thursday, February 22nd and Friday, February 23rd.
This year marks the 64th season for the School Race Program, a testament to Bogus Basin’s ongoing commitment to keeping local mountain recreation affordable and accessible to the community. Participants are eligible for lift ticket and rental equipment discounts, and additional financial assistance is available for those who qualify. The program relies largely upon the volunteer support of over 150 school advisors, most are teachers who promote the program at their schools and spend their Saturdays assisting with the races and other events.
To earn a slot in the 2024 Dotty Clark Memorial Races, students must participate in at least three of six scheduled qualifying races held in Bogus Basin’s Bitterroot Basin. On Saturday race days, this area buzzes with activity and chairlift lines. Next year promises a different experience; Bogus Basin recently announced plans to replace and realign its outdated two-seat Bitterroot Chairlift with a brand new Skytrac four-person chairlift before winter 2024/25. The new lift will improve efficiency and introduce more users to Bitterroot Basin’s excellent beginner and low-intermediate terrain.

The Dotty Clark Championship race was established in 1960 as a fun and friendly competition between two local high schools, Boise and Borah High. The schools dedicated the race to a popular classmate, Dotty Clark, who was killed in a car accident. Since then, the program has grown to 42 middle schools and 37 high schools throughout the Treasure Valley.

About Bogus Basin
Opened in 1942, Bogus Basin winter operations offer 2,600 acres of daytime skiable terrain and 200+ acres for night skiing; eleven lifts – including four high-speed quads – and three people-mover surface lifts; an 800-foot tubing hill. The Nordic Center offers 37 kilometers of groomed trails. Environmental education and community outreach programs serve over 20,000 individuals annually, primarily youth. Bogus Basin is located 16.5 miles north of Boise, Idaho, and operates under a special use permit with the Boise National Forest.
Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area is one of the largest non-profit recreation areas in the country. It is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to engaging the community to provide accessible, affordable, and fun year-round mountain recreation and education. Bogus Basin summer activities include a challenge course, mountain coaster, summer tubing, climbing wall, bungee trampoline, gem panning station, The Basin Gravity Park, cross-country mountain biking and hiking, free community events and educational programs, chairlift service to access hiking and biking trails, and guided nature hikes.
