National Public Lands Day at Bogus Basin
With more than 640 million acres across the nation — and 33 million in Idaho alone — our public lands offer outstanding recreational opportunities while safeguarding vital habitat for fish and wildlife. Our partners in the Boise National Forest have helped us to provide affordable and fun year-round recreation and education to our community for over 80 years. To thank our agency partners and celebrate all that public lands have to offer, we are hosting our 2nd annual National Public Lands Day Celebration at Bogus Basin on Saturday, September 27th!
Stewardship in Action
The day kicks off with a volunteer seed collection event where our expert Sustainability & Stewardship team will guide volunteers on a seed collecting excursion. Seeds collected are used for pollinator habitat enhancement projects on the mountain; taking habitat restoration to the next level by increasing species diversity to support a wide variety of plant and animal life.
The seeds are sent to different growers to germinate and grow into seedlings, including the University of Idaho Pitkin Nursery, the Shoshone-Paiute Nursery, and the all-volunteer Treasure Valley Native Plant Network.
We take those seedlings and plant them each fall with our staff and lovely volunteers.
Highlight Event – Public Lands 101 Policy Panel
From the peaks of the Sawtooths to the slopes of Hells Canyon, our public lands are vast and diverse which brings with it a wide array of management challenges. Attendees will learn all about how our different types of public lands are managed, some of the most pressing challenges and threats, and how to be an effective and engaged advocate for these important spaces. As a bonus, anyone who attends the panel will receive five FREE raffle tickets.
