Let’s be real… your first time on the snow can be overwhelming. Whether your new gear makes you feel like the State Puff Marshmallow, the snowcat sirens are wailing in your ears, or the other riders are whizzing by… you’ve got plenty of moving parts to worry about.

We’ve adopted Terrain Based LearningTM to provide a guided learning experience that will melt your worries away and give you the confidence to embark on a lifetime of fun on the snow.

What is terrain Based Learning?

The Terrain Based Learning Program, developed by Snow Operating, is designed to minimize the hurdles beginners face when learning to ride and maximize the potential for fun. Intuitively built to engage every learning style, this world-renowned teaching method has been adopted by countless resorts across the country and, most importantly, shares a commitment to the guest experience that we prioritize here at Bogus Basin.

When moving through the five snow stations, you will encounter a variety of snow features specifically designed to help you control your speed and turns so you can focus on the process of skill development instead of crashing into a tree! Each station of the progression teaches you a slightly more difficult component of finding your flow to purposefully guide you through a creative exploration of the ranges of motion while minimizing the fear of what-ifs.

Station 1 – The Flats

Your goal for this station is to develop your athletic stance and balance. Take your time getting comfortable with your gear and how it moves!

Station 2 – The Mini-Pipe

At this station, focus on building balance while sliding. Repeat these movements as many times as necessary until you feel comfortable with the motions!

Station 3 – The Rollers

This station is all about finding confidence while moving downhill. Start slow and link movements until you are rocking those rollers!

Station 4 – The Banked Turns

Focus on steering your gear at this station. Build on the basics we have learned so far!

Station 5 – The Perfect Slope

Now you are in control, find your flow! Practice everything you have learned at Station Five; you are on your way to more terrain!
