Finding the right Lesson At Bogus Basin

Are you ready to learn a new sport, or rekindle your passion for skiing or snowboarding? In line with our mission to made recreation and education accessible to the Treasure Valley, our Ski and Snowboard School offers a range of lesson options for everyone, from beginners to advanced riders. This guide has everything you need to know about ski and snowboard lessons at Bogus Basin, your local not-for-profit mountain!

Ski and Snowboard Lessons

Offered for both skiing and snowboarding, lessons are a great way to improve your confidence elevate your experience on the slopes. We offer a wide range of lessons for you, your friends, and your family. Lesson products are available to students 3 years old and up.

We recommend making advance reservations for lessons, walk-in availability may be limited. Registration for Multi-Week Programs, Private and semi-private lessons opens online and by phone in early October. Daily Group Lessons are available for phone reservations starting the first week of December.

Passport Program

For the first-timers – Our award-winning, nationally recognized Passport Program is the perfect package for beginner skiers and snowboarders ages 13 and up. The package includes a series of four (4) 1 hour and 45 minute ski or snowboard lessons, lift tickets on lesson days, equipment use during the winter season, and a season pass when you’ve completed all four sessions.

The Winter Passport Package sessions take place early in the winter season, during December or January. Upon completion of the Winter Passport Package, you’ll receive a winter season pass to enjoy for the remainder of the season.

The Spring Passport Program takes place in February or March. After finishing the four lessons, you’ll receive a Spring Pass valid for the remainder of the season, plus a season pass for the following winter. This is a great opportunity to hit the slopes and continue improving your skills!


Private Alpine Lessons

For personalized instruction – A private lesson is a great way to learn a new skill with undivided attention paid to you and your progress. Request a specific instructor or let us match you with one of our awesome team members. Private lessons are available for anyone over the age of 3. Sign up for a 1-hour, 2-hour, 3-hour, or 6-hour private lesson during the winter operating season!

Private lessons do not include lift access or ski or snowboard equipment rentals.

Semi – Private Alpine Lessons

Learn with your friends – Book a semi-private snowboarding or skiing lesson with two to five friends or family members! Everyone in the semi-private lesson must participate in the same discipline (ski or snowboard), and be 7 years or older. To ensure the best experience, we recommend forming your group with friends or family members who share similar ages and skill levels.

Private lessons do not include lift access or ski or snowboard equipment.


Group Alpine Lessons

Learn with others – Group lessons are the most affordable way to learn skiing or snowboarding at Bogus Basin. Offered daily for all ability levels, these lessons group riders together by age and skill to ensure a great learning experience for everyone. Each session lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Upgrade to a group lesson package which includes the lesson, rentals, and age-appropriate lift ticket!

Multi-Week Group Lessons

Multi-week group lessons are the best way to learn and improve your riding skills all season long. The Ski and Snowboard School at Bogus Basin offers six multi-week lesson programs for all riders ages 4 and up!

Mogul Mouse

Ages 4 – 6

Mogul Mouse makes learning to ski fun, and helps new rippers develop a love for outdoor recreation! Designed for 4 to 6 year-olds at any ability level, the Mogul Mouse program is a series of four lessons that may be bundled with equipment rentals, and a winter season pass. We provide chair riding assistance for Mogul Mouse participants.


Mountain Explorers

Ages 7 – 12

Mountain Explorers is a great way for 7 to 12 year old kids to learn to ski or snowboard, or improve their skills. The Mountain Explorer program is a series of 4 lessons for skiers and snowboarders at any ability level. Package the program with equipment rentals and a Junior Winter Season Pass!


Mountain Adventure

Ages 13+

The Mountain Adventure program is a great way to develop your skiing and/or snowboarding skills around the mountain, with an instructor! The Mountain Adventure program is a series of 4 lessons that are 1 hour and 45 minutes long, and designed to help participants of all abilities gain confidence and improve their technique. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, Mountain Adventure offers an exciting, supportive environment for growth.

The Mountain Adventure lesson series does not include lift access or ski or snowboard equipment.

Extreme Team

Ages 7 – 17

Extreme Team is designed to help intermediate to expert riders improve riding skills by riding together! Extreme Team is an 8-week program, designed for skiers and snowboarders. Extreme Team lessons are 2 hours and 45 minutes long.

The Extreme Team program does not include lift access or ski or snowboard equipment.


Backside Bashers

Ages 18+

Backside Bashers is an 8-week group lesson series designed for strong-intermediate to expert level alpine skiers interested in refining their skills while exploring the mountain with like-minded skiers. Each 2-hour and 45-minute session offers a supportive and engaging environment for adult skiers looking to elevate their abilities and have fun in the process!

Nordic Lessons

Ready to see what Nordic Skiing is all about? Take a Nordic Lesson with one of our experienced instructors! Enjoy fresh air and breathtaking views of the Treasure Valley from the Nordic Highway, which begins at The Frontier Point Lodge. Private and Group Nordic Lessons are available throughout the operating season.

Nordic and Skate Ski Passport

Discover Nordic skiing with our award-winning, nationally recognized Learn to Ski and Skate Beginner Program! This beginner-friendly experience is the perfect way to try out a new snow sport with guidance from our qualified instructors. Nordic and Skate Ski Passport Programs include four lessons, unlimited equipment usage for the current season, and a Nordic Season Pass upon completing all four lessons.

  • Nordic Passport Package | Learn classic Nordic skiing in the first two lessons and skate skiing in the final two.
  • Nordic Skate Ski Passport Package | Focus solely on skate skiing for all four lessons.
  • Nordic Passport Flex Package | Four private lessons that you may schedule at your convenience. All lessons must be completed by mid-January.

Passport packages are for beginner Nordic Skiers only.

About Bogus Basin Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area is a 501(C)(3) organization dedicated to engaging the community to provide accessible, affordable, and fun year-round mountain recreation and education. Opened in 1942, Bogus Basin offers 2,600 acres of daytime skiable terrain and 200 acres for night skiing, seven chairlifts and three people-mover carpets, and an 800-foot tubing hill. The Nordic Center offers 37 kilometers of groomed trails for skiing and snowshoeing. Environmental education and community outreach programs, primarily youth, serve over 20,000 individuals annually. Summer activities include The Glade Runner Mountain Coaster, The Mine Shaft Challenge Course, mountain biking, events, hiking and chairlift service for hike and bike transport. Bogus Basin is located 16.5 miles north of Boise, Idaho, and operates under a special use permit with the Boise National Forest. www.bogusbasin.org
