December 31, 2018 (BOISE, ID)– Bogus Basin is ready to continue its popular New Year’s Day tradition of an early evening fireworks show and torchlight parade. Tuesday, January 1st marks the third year that the nonprofit recreation area will host the family friendly event on the mountain. The show will take place just above the Simplot Lodge Base Area, and is open to the public.
Activities are planned throughout the day including food specials, music, and prizes for every skier and snowboarder who participates in a “Ski 360 Degrees of Bogus,” activity by riding every lift.
At 5:30pm, free cookies and hot chocolate will be available in the base area, while supplies last. The torchlight parade and fireworks show begin at 6:15pm on Tuesday, January 1st and will be visible from the Simplot Base Area Plaza. Skiers and non-skiers alike are invited to attend.
Nate Shake, Bogus Basin Director of Mountain Operations, will serve as Grand Marshal of this year’s Torchlight Parade. Shake began his career at Bogus Basin as a ski instructor in 1989, and has worked in a variety of roles, including Ski & Snowboard School Manager, and Director of Risk Management and Human Resources. He assumed his current position in November 2015. As Director of Mountain Operations, Shake has overseen some of the most significant construction projects in Bogus Basin’s history, including the Glade Runner Mountain Coaster in 2017. Last summer, Shake directed the installation of Bogus Basin’s top-to-bottom snowmaking system. This included constructing a 13 million gallon retention pond, and laying 3 and 1/2 miles of underground pipe on the mountain. The project was completed in just seven months– in time to make snow for the area’s 2018-19 winter season opening on December 6th.
