January 29, 2016 (BOISE, ID)– Students from throughout the Boise School District will hit the slopes Monday and Tuesday for an all-expenses paid day at Bogus Basin complete with equipment rental, ski and snowboard lessons, lunch, and transportation. The trip, part of an ongoing partnership between Bogus Basin and Boise School District, was earned by students enrolled in AVID, a program that targets students in the academic middle who have the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard.
The incentive was awarded to junior high and senior high school aged students who achieved certain GPA and attendance benchmarks.
“Students have worked very hard to meet the requirements to go, because for some of them, this might be the only opportunity they ever have to experience skiing or snowboarding. You could say this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for them. Many of them have no idea what to expect once they’re up at bogus, so it’s always a lot of fun to see how much they enjoy it.”

“The AVID Program is just one example of how Bogus Basin collaborates with community partners to connect thousands of local kids to outdoor learning programs and recreational activities on the mountain,” said Bogus Basin General Manager, Brad Wilson. “It is especially rewarding when we know we are giving someone the chance to visit Bogus Basin for the very first time.”
This marks the third season that Bogus Basin and Boise School District have collaborated on the AVID program project, and nearly 1,000 students have participated. In a reflection exercise, students overwhelmingly reported that the Bogus Basin opportunity influenced them to perform better academically, fostered a “team” mentality, and reduced tardiness.

Bogus Basin is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to engaging the community to provide accessible, affordable, and fun year-round mountain recreation and education. Opened in 1942, Bogus Basin offers 2,600 acres of daytime skiable terrain, and 165 acres for night skiing; seven lifts and two people-mover carpets; and an 800-foot tubing hill. The Nordic Center offers 37 kilometers of groomed trails. Summer activities include mountain biking, amphitheater events, disc golf, private events, and hiking.
