August 15, 2017 (BOISE, ID)– Still looking for that perfect spot to view Monday’s solar eclipse? Bogus Basin has announced that the nonprofit mountain recreation area will be open to the public from 8:00am until 4:00pm on Monday, August 21st, providing an easy, nearby alternative for residents seeking a special place to experience the eclipse.
“We are excited to provide an affordable and accessible option for people who want a great, nearby location to view the eclipse,” said Bogus Basin General Manager, Brad Wilson. “We’ll be open throughout the day for anyone who wants to ride the chairlift up to watch the eclipse, hike up and find a special place on the mountain, or just hang out at our newly landscaped base area plaza and lawn.”
The Deerpoint Chairlift will operate from 8:00am-4:00pm, transporting viewers to an elevation of 7,070; just 3.7 miles out of the path of totality. The cost of a single ride will be $15. Breakfast will be available for purchase at the top from 8:30-11:00am, featuring quiche, orange juice, and mimosas. Following the eclipse, live music will play in the base area, and Bogus Basin’s new family-friendly Fun Zone– including summer tubing, climbing wall, bungee trampoline, and gem panning station, will be open until 4:00pm.
Please note that Stage 1 fire restrictions are currently in effect at Bogus Basin. Stage 1 restrictions prohibit building, maintaining or attending campfires, as well as smoking, except in designated areas.
