Bogus Basin instructors enjoy teaching people of all ages and abilities. Our professional staff guide, coach, and encourage their students while offering instruction techniques in a safety-oriented environment. The Bogus Basin instructors utilize techniques endorsed by the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI).

Nate Demarcus
PSIA 2 | AASI 1
Nate has been teaching snow sports for 10 years and loves giving people the skills to open up new terrain and endless possibilities! Nate’s teaching specialty is moving students from beginner to intermediate zones. In the off-season, Nate enjoys mountain biking, paddle boarding, camping, hiking, and playing with his dog. One of Nate’s hidden talents? He can bake a killer pie!
Eric Ott
Level 1 Snowboard Instructor Certification
Eric has been snowboarding for 24 years and recently decided to get into teaching! Eric’s favorite part about teaching is showing others the joy of riding and unlocking new levels of progression. Eric is a patient instructor and strives to make learning fun for everyone. Depending on the conditions, Eric loves to get off the trail and ride in the trees and powder. He also loves the freestyle terrain parks and fresh-groomed runs to fly on. When he’s not teaching, Eric enjoys surfing, skateboarding, swimming, hiking and exploring.
Bob Willhide
Alpine Level 1 | Children's Specialist 1 & 2 | Freestyle Specialist 1
Bob has taught snow sports for 24 years and particularly loves seeing people having fun and improving at this sport. Bob enjoys whitewater rafting, kayaking, paddle boarding, and mountain biking when not on the snow. Bob is available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Paul Canfield
Snowboard Level 3 | Freestyle Specialist 1 | Children's Specialist 1
With 14 years of teaching, Paul especially enjoys sharing his passion with others and introducing a new way of life. Paul specializes in teaching intermediate to advanced snowboarding. Paul enjoys yoga, surfing, skating, and dirt biking in his free time.
Steven Alexander
PSIA Level 1 Alpine
As an adult learner himself (Steven was 33 when he learned to ski), Steven enjoys working with beginning adults and seeing them gain confidence as they progress. Steven works with beginner/intermediate children, youth, and adult skiers. Fun fact: Steven played the Trombone through college.
Rowan Gardner
Alpine Level 1
Rowan is in his second year of teaching skiing at Bogus Basin. When teaching others, he especially enjoys watching the progression of his students on the mountain. Rowan specializes in teaching carving and little jibs on side hits. He is also very patient with kids. Rowan’s favorite run on the mountain is The Face!
Lewis Witte
Alpine Level 1
Lewis has been teaching skiing at Bogus Basin for 2 years. His favorite part about teaching others how to ski is watching them have their “ah-ha” moment when learning and using a new skill. Lewis’ favorite run is Upper Paradise to Paradise. Ask him about whitewater rafting class 5 rapids at New River Gorge National Park! Lewis is available upon request.
Mike Young
Alpine Level 3 | Senior Specialist 2 | Children's Specialist 1
Mike has been teaching skiing for 31 years and has specialties working with beginners of all ages! Mike especially enjoys seeing that “ah-ha” moment on a student’s face when things start to click for them. His favorite runs on the mountain are Upper Nugget and Tiger. Mike is available to teach lessons on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Sebastian "Basti" Saur
Alpine 1
Sebastian “Basti” enjoys teaching adults the fundamentals of skiing so they can learn to appreciate this beautiful life sport at any age. He teaches beginner groups and intermediate one-on-one lessons. Basti specializes in communication, biomechanics, adult students, humor, and camaraderie when teaching. Basti enjoys Jiu Jitsu, Fitness, hunting, personal development, teaching, fantasy books, mindfulness, and laughing in his free time. Pine Creek Bowl is one of Basti’s favorite spots to ski on the mountain.
Scott Macpherson
PSIA Alpine Level 3 | Senior Specialist 1 | Freestyle Specialist 1
Scott Macpherson has over 30 years of experience teaching snow sports. Scott especially enjoys sharing activities that he loves with others, creating meaningful adventures, and learning from others. Fun fact: Scott is twice PSIA LVL III Alpine certified – originally in 1984 and more recently in 2024. When he’s not skiing, you can find Scott cycling, hiking, fly fishing, woodworking, and traveling. Scott is available on weekends, evenings, and some weekdays.
Logan Johnson
Snowboard Level 1
Logan is in his third year of teaching snowboarding. To Logan, the mountain makes him feel alive more than anything else – giving people the opportunity to experience a new way to feel alive and extend my passion to those individuals is an amazing feeling. Logan teaches students of all ages technical form through all terrain types, carving, backcountry terrain, flat-terrain freestyle, and jumps / aerial control. Logan is available upon request. Outside of snowboarding, Logan is a full-time Game Developer / Level Designer and has a large passion for gaming.
Brian Liming
Alpine Level 3 | Snowboard Level 1 | Senior Specialist 1
Brian has taught snow sports for 50 years! Brian is an expert in guiding students to help them achieve their snow sports goal(s) in a safe and fun learning environment. He loves teaching children, teens, and adults from beginner to expert ability levels in alpine skiing and snowboarding. Brian is available to teach lessons on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays at Bogus Basin throughout the winter snow sports season. In addition to teaching, Brian is a singer/songwriter with more than 75 original songs performed at venues throughout the Pacific Northwest. Brian’s favorite run at Bogus Basin is Triumph.
Frank Vetsch
Alpine Level 1
Frank Vetsch is a ski instructor passionate about helping others find the joy he’s found in one of the greatest lifetime sports. Frank specializes in teaching general skiing skills. Franks favorite run on the mountain is Tiger. In the summertime, Frank enjoys biking and hiking.
Gabriel Carvalho
Snowboard Level 1 | Freestyle Specialist Level 1
Gabriel is a certified snowboard and ski instructor. Gabriel loves interacting with students and watching them develop new skills on the snow, especially flat-ground freestyle and carving progression. Gabriel is available Sunday – Thursday in the winter season. In his free time, Gabriel enjoys skateboarding and rock climbing.
Dave Leppert
PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 2 | Senior Specialist 2
Dave Leppert is an experienced PSIA-AASI Level 2 Alpine Ski Instructor and Level 2 Senior Specialist. Dave has over 20 years of experience teaching – he has found a passion for helping people gain confidence and the ability to enjoy a lifelong sport. Dave works with beginner to intermediate skiers on Tuesdays and Thursdays. When he’s not at the mountain, you can find Dave spending time with his dogs, gardening, collecting minerals, and running his sawmill business. Ask Dave about his time working around the world as a geologist! Favorite Run at Bogus Basin: Sunbeam

Scott Nicholas
PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 1
Scott Nicholas has a PSIA-AASI Level 1 Alpine teaching certification along with 6 years of experience teaching snow sports. Scott loves to make new friends and specializes in teaching adults to ski and snowboard on Monday and Tuesday nights. In his free time, you can find Scott skiing on Superior or horseback riding. Scott is also a cancer survivor.
Miguel Bilbao
Alpine Level 3
Miguel has been teaching skiing for 38 years! Miguel enjoys teaching because of the people he gets to teach, skiing with his wife, friends, and co-workers all at Bogus Basin. Miguel teaches Alpine beginners and intermediates of any age! Fun fact: for 30 summer seasons, Miguel worked as a wildland firefighter!
Matt Percuoco
PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 3 | Children Specialist 2
Matt Percuoco has 16 years of experience teaching snow sports and a Level 3 PSIA-AASI teaching certification. Matt also has a Children Specialist 2 PSIA-AASI certification and specializes in children’s education. Matt enjoys teaching others how to ski at higher performance and venture to off-piste terrain. A fun fact about Matt: He has a college degree’s worth of knowledge in comedy movies!
Griffin Coleman
PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 1 | Freestyle 1
Griffin Coleman is PSIA-AASI certified in Alpine Level 1 and Freestyle Level 1 skiing. Griffin enjoys teaching because he loves to be on the snow just as much as he loves teaching others a new skill that they can use for the rest of their lives. Griffin teaches at Bogus Basin during the day on the weekends and on most weeknights. In his free time, Griffin enjoys camping, traveling, and being outside. Favorite Run at Bogus Basin: Liberty

Ted Dedden
PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 1 | Senior Specialist 1
Ted Dedden is a PSIA-AASI Level 1 Alpine Instructor and Senior Specialist with 35 years of experience teaching Alpine Skiing. Ted specializes in guiding new skiers through their learning progression to build confidence and introduce them to runs that they haven’t yet skied. When the ski season is over, Ted enjoys playing softball. Ask Ted about living all over the world in just 13 years! Favorite Run at Bogus Basin: Sourdough on the front side and Matchless on the back side of the mountain

Kerry Kelley
PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 1
Kerry Kelley is a PSIA-AASI Level 1 Alpine Ski Instructor, specializing in teaching beginner and intermediate alpine skiers. One of Kerry’s favorite parts about teaching skiing is being around people who enjoy the sport and want to improve. Kerry loves to be outdoors with her friends and family, especially hiking and mountain biking. Fun Fact: Kerry has climbed all 12,000+ foot mountains in Idaho and several volcanoes in Washington! Jake Bolin
Level 3 Snowboard | Freestyle 1 | Childrens Specialist 1
Jake has been teaching for 25 years, and loves sharing the stoke! Jake enjoys teaching all guests and does his best to serve his clients in small group settings and private lessons. Off of the hill, Jake enjoys spending time outdoors wit his family.
Martha Caballero
PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 3 Instructor, Clinician, and Examiner
Martha Caballero is a PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 3 Instructor, Clinician, and Examiner with over 39 years of experience teaching alpine skiing. Martha loves to ski and spend time outdoors. Sam Pinker
AASI Level 3
Sam has taught snow sports for 26 years and works with riders of all levels – from beginners to advanced all-mountain riders. Sam especially enjoys seeing students progress and feel great about themselves. When he’s not on snow, Sam enjoys mountain biking and windsurfing.
Patrick Brown
PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 1
Patrick Brown is a PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 1 Instructor with 2 years of teaching experience. One of Patrick’s favorite parts about his job is watching the satisfaction of new skiers as they improve their skills and build their confidence! In his free time, Patrick enjoys playing soccer and tennis. Patrick is available to teach most days with an advanced lesson reservation. Ask him about his fetch-playing cat! Ethan Fitchner
Alpine Level 1
Ethan enjoys watching new and progressing riders learn new things and get stoked on snowboarding and learning! Ethan loves teaching new riders how to ride in the powder, as well as how to progress from basic turns into carving. His biggest focus during lessons is that clients are having fun and learning new things.
Erik Christiansen
PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 1
Erik Christiansen is a PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 1 Instructor with 3 years of teaching experience. Erik specializes in working with beginners, and those returning to the sport after a layoff, especially from an injury or illness. One of Erik’s favorite parts about teaching is seeing people’s faces light up when they master a new skill or successfully ski new, more difficult, terrain. In his free time, Erik enjoys hiking, running, and mountain biking. Fun Fact: Erik was a wildland firefighter for 42 years! Favorite Run at Bogus Basin: Corn Patch, when the snow is soft an silky!
