Bogus Basin instructors enjoy teaching people of all ages and abilities. Our professional staff guide, coach, and encourage their students while offering instruction techniques in a safety-oriented environment. The Bogus Basin instructors utilize techniques certified by the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors (AASI).

TJ Kauth
Alpine Level 2 | Snowboard Level 3 | Children's Specialist 1 | Freestyle Specialist 1
I grew up skiing and riding at Snoqualmie Summit in Washington State. My childhood experiences in the mountains have fueled a lifelong passion for outdoor pursuits. I began my career in the Ski Industry in 1998 working as a full-time rental shop ski technician and part-time instructor. I have certifications through PSIA / AASI in Alpine, Snowboard, Children’s, and Freestyle. I am also an avid mountain biker and enjoy spending time running rivers. I really enjoy passing on my passion for the outdoors to others.

Hi! My name is Greg and I’m a PSIA Alpine Level 1 certified instructor. I enjoy teaching both adults and kids of all ages. My goal is to help you feel safe and comfortable out there while having fun and learning. Whether you have never skied before of have been out there for years I’m confident I can help you get better!

With 23 years on skis, 7 years on a snowboard, and a decade of ski racing experience coupled with a sprinkle of backcountry snowmobiling, skiing, and riding have always been more than just sports to me—they’ve been a lifelong way to connect with family, friends, and the great outdoors. I’ve spent the past 3 years as a snow sports instructor and am stoked to be heading into another season of instructing! Whether you’re clipping into skis for the first time or refining advanced techniques, I’m passionate about helping you grow your skills and confidence on the mountain while sharing the joy that snow sports have brought to my life. As Warren Miller said, “If you don’t do it this year, you’ll be one year older when you do.” I’ll be here to help!

Hey! I’m Brendan — a PSIA Level I ski instructor who loves helping people find their style on the mountain. I’m all about keeping lessons fun, encouraging confidence, and sharing my love for the outdoors. When I’m not skiing, you’ll probably find me climbing, backpacking, or planning my next adventure.

After 9 years of snowboarding, I decided to enter the instructor world for the first time in 2024. That fantastic season and the awesome people I met left me eager to continue my snowboard instructing journey. Now, I’m excited to return to Bogus for another fun season teaching you and all your friends how to surf the mountains! Let’s ride together!
Larry Nevers

Skiing is life, except during golf season! I started skiing in Maine around age 8, (I turn 60 this year!) I skied in Germany and Austria while in the Army. Have skied Wa., Or. Idaho and Wyoming here in the West. I’ve had multiple friends who have skied many mountains and all of them love skiing at Bogus!

I’ve been teaching skiing at Bogus for 40 years and have loved every minute of it. When asked what age and level I love to teach the most, I always say all of them. From age 3 to 100, from beginner to expert to training instructors, that same smile always appears!
Ethan Fitchner

Hello, my name is Ethan! This will be my 4th season teaching snowboarding at Bogus Basin. And my 10th season snowboarding at Bogus Basin. When I’m not on the mountain, I work as a wildland firefighter and spend my free time backpacking, mountain biking, snowboarding, and fishing. I’m passionate about helping students of all ages and abilities progress and find confidence on a board, whether you’re just learning the basics or improving on more advanced skills. I love seeing riders grow and challenge themselves while having as much fun as possible out on the snow. I’m available for private lessons Saturday through Monday, and I look forward to helping you take your riding to the next level!

I am a PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 1 Instructor with 3 years of teaching experience. I especially like the satisfaction I see in new skiers as they improve their skills and build their confidence. In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer and tennis. I am also a PMBIA Certified Mountain Bike Instructor at Bogus during the summer season. I am available to teach most days with an advanced lesson reservation. Ask me about my fetch-playing cat!

I am married to Leslie, and we have 3 adult children. In 2013, I retired from my career as civil trial attorney and administrative law judge. My skiing at Bogus began in 1976, so I have seen many changes on our mountain. For over 20 years, I served as a youth soccer coach. Last year, I was lucky enough to be hired as an alpine ski instructor. I earned a Professional Ski Instructors of America Level 1 Alpine certification, and I am also a certified instructor of terrain-based skiing. One of my goals for 2025-2026 is to introduce more people to the fun of downhill skiing.

I’m from Boise. I have skied and worked on and off at Bogus for a long time. After retirement, I went to work part-time as a Bogus Basin ski instructor. There’s nothing I like better than teaching my favorite lifetime sport!

I am going into my 19th season teaching skiing for the Bogus Basin Ski & Snowboard School. Moving to Idaho and being part of the Bogus family has been my retirement “Dream Job”! I began my ski instructor career as a high school senior. Helping my students learn and advance their skills while discovering how much fun skiing really is has been truly rewarding for me. Bogus Basin offers an expansive variety of terrain along with exceptional facilities. Whether riding the chairs, cruising runs, or taking a break in the lodges, the friendly, positive vibe that is always present makes the learning experience at Bogus all the more enjoyable and appreciated.

I am a a PSIA Alpine Level 1 instructor who loves teaching kids and helping new skiers feel confident on the slopes. Remembering how intimidating learning to ski can be, I focus on creating fun, supportive lessons that make skiing feel effortless. When not on the mountain, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, and traveling to explore new places and ski resorts.

I have been teaching skiing for over 7 years and holds a PSIA-AASI Alpine Level 3 certification. I enjoy guiding others to improve their skiing capabilities and am always eager to see students progress to their next “lightbulb” moment. I specialize in teaching off-piste and mogul skiing skills, but I also enjoy helping people progress in all levels and aspects of skiing.

The 2025/2026 winter season will be my 52nd as a snow sports instructor, including 47 years teaching at Bogus Basin. I enjoy teaching alpine skiing and snowboarding to students of all ages and abilities (beginner to expert) who want to improve their skills, and have a safe, fun, and enjoyable mountain experience. I am certified in Terrain Based Learning, which I use during private and class lessons for new skiers and snowboarders. I look forward to skiing or riding with you!

Mike Young

The 25/26 season will be my 33rd year teaching at Bogus Basin. I enjoy working with people of all ages and abilities. First-time beginners are a group that I especially find fun and exciting to work with. I especially enjoy seeing that “ah-ha” moment on a student’s face when things start to click. My favorite runs on the mountain are Upper Nugget and Tiger. I am available to teach lessons on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Katie Meisenbacher

I have been teaching for 6 seasons, starting on the East Coast in high school and then in Montana, where I earned my certifications at Big Sky Resort. Along with my Snowboard Certification, I hold a Children’s Specialist Certification. I specialize in teaching children with special needs and believe that the mountain is for everyone. When I am not snowboarding, you will probably find me hiking in the backcountry and trying to make friends with any animal I can find!

I have been a ski and snowboard instructor for 6 years. I started instructing in Western North Carolina at 14 years old. After developing a children’s program at my home mountain, I worked for Woodward at Copper Mountain, where I obtained my certifications. I am passionate about progression, and want to take your abilities to the next level.
Fun fact: if you see custom drawings on instructors’ gloves, there’s a 98% chance I drew them!

Hello, my name is Asher Stern. I am from Sun Valley, ID, and I am a dual-certified instructor. Some of my favorite things about Bogus Basin are the positive community, welcoming environment, and of course… the great snow!!!

Born and raised in the Treasure Valley, I have been instructing here at Bogus Basin since the 19/20 Winter Season, and pursued a career in the industry ever since. I spend my summers working for HighCascade Snowboard Camp & Windells Ski Camp as their Head Coach, as well as Golfing/Fishing/Surfing when I can in my off-time. Throughout the years I have acquired certifications through AASI/PSIA/USASA, mainly with a focus on freestyle snowboarding. Look forward to sharing the slopes with everyone! :) P.S. – shhhhh I have the best powder spots……

Kerry Kelley

I specialize in teaching beginner and intermediate alpine skiers. One of my favorite parts about teaching skiing is being around people who enjoy the sport and want to improve. I love to be outdoors with my friends and family, especially hiking and mountain biking.
Fun Fact: I have climbed all 12,000+ foot mountains in Idaho and several volcanoes in Washington!

I’m a PSIA-AASI Level 1 and Freestyle 1 certified snowboard instructor with five years of riding experience and a background in skiing from a young age. I love working with students of all ages and skill levels, and I’m passionate about creating a supportive, fun learning environment. Teaching allows me to share the joy snowboarding has brought into my life, and being part of this community is one of my favorite things about winter!
